COVID-19 SAFETY
Updated 6.14.2022
U.S. Baseball & Softball Academy (USBSA) is committed to creating a safe and positive environment for all campers and staff. In advance of our 2022 camp season, we continue to follow CDC guidance and adhere to state, local, and facility requirements to ensure the safety of our campers and staff. As safety guidelines change, our policies and procedures listed below may change accordingly.
USBSA COVID-19 SAFETY PROCEDURES & REGULATIONS:
The following measures are in place to ensure the safety of campers, staff, and camper families. Our precautions are in place to reduce the likelihood of transmission at camp, but we cannot guarantee zero risk. All participants will be asked to comply throughout the duration of camps—and any staff member, camper or camper family member who does not comply will not be allowed at camp.
- COVID-19 Waiver: All camp staff and camper parents/guardians must sign the USBSA COVID-19 waiver of liability before camp.
- Self-Symptom Check: It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to screen the camper for symptoms associated with Covid-19 before arrival at camp and will ensure the camper does not attend camp if experiencing any related symptoms. Some camps may also require a verbal symptom screening or a symptom screening form be completed on-site. Please carefully review the CDC’s List of COVID-19 Symptoms.
- Quarantine: It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to determine if the camper has had a recent confirmed case of COVID-19 or exposure to COVID-19 which might require them to quarantine. The CDC offers a Quarantine and Isolation Calculator which can help determine the need to quarantine.
- Mask Mandates: All camps will adhere to state, local, and facility requirements for face coverings. Staff and campers are required to provide their own masks when face coverings are required. While masks may not be required, USBSA encourages the use of masks while indoors.
- Vaccine Mandates: Some state, local, or facility guidelines may require staff and/or campers to be vaccinated and boosted (and require a copy of the camper’s vaccination card) in order to participate in camp. All camps will adhere to these requirements. If cleared by a medical professional, USBSA encourages all staff and eligible campers to get vaccinated and boosted before camp as a preventative measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19, even if not required.
- Pre-Camp Testing: All camps will adhere to state, local, and facility requirements for pre-camp testing requirements. USBSA encourages all campers to take an at-home COVID-19 test before attending camp, even if not mandated.
- Personal sanitation: Staff and campers should frequently wash their hands with soap and water, or use a hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available. Parents should provide campers with their own hand sanitizer.
- Equipment sanitation: Campers’ personal equipment and belongings should not be shared and should be properly sanitized after use. Label your personal equipment and belongings to keep them from getting mixed up with or used by others… order your labels now and save 15% with code USSC at ussc.labeldaddy.com.
REPORTING PROCEDURES:
*Scenario procedures may vary depending on local, state, and CDC guidelines.
- If a camper or staff exhibits symptoms or contracts COVID-19 during the camp or 5 days after, they are responsible for notifying the Camp Director immediately. If any cases are reported, all camper families and staff will be notified.
- In the event of a confirmed COVID-19 case of a camper or staff member during camp, camper families and staff will be notified. Protocols may include temporarily closing the site where exposure occurred.
- If a USBSA staff member reports symptoms of COVID-19 during camp, they will be placed on temporary leave until a negative COVID-19 test result is confirmed and at least 48 hours have passed since recovery, or 5 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.
- If a camper reports symptoms of COVID-19 during camp, they will be quarantined until their parent/guardian arrives to pick them up from camp. The affected camper will not be able to return until a negative COVID-19 test result is confirmed and at least 48 hours have passed since recovery, or 5 days have passed since symptoms first appeared. The camper may be allowed back as soon as the next day if a doctor’s note is provided that states the condition was not related to COVID-19.
We Are All In This Together…
We are here to help make the camp experience safe and enjoyable. Parents are welcome to reach out with any questions. While we strive to provide the best answers possible, USBSA Directors and camp staff are not authorized or qualified to provide medical or legal advice specific to a camper’s symptoms or circumstances. If parents have any doubt whether their child should participate in camp, we ask that they err on the side of caution and keep them home. USBSA will provide you with a prorated voucher for any missed days of camp.
USBSA will follow COVID-19 safety guidelines as set by the CDC, state, local and facility authorities. While we are taking every possible precaution, we cannot guarantee against exposure during camps. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present.
